Life, they say, is a series of wrong turns – and I can trace my own critical lifeline in the different publications for which I have reviewed the titles in the derivative Wrong Turn hillbilly horror franchise. It’s a life arguably misspent, but with few regrets: Rob Schmidt’s (not very) original Wrong Turn in 2003 for Movie-Gazette.com, written in a style that I would now never replicate; Joe Lynch’s amped-up directorial debut Wrong Turn 2: Dead End – and by far my favourite franchise entry – for Film4.com; Declan O’Brien’s Wrong Turn 3: Left For Dead for EyeforFilm.com; O’Brien’s Wrong Turn 4: Bloody Beginnings for Little White Lies; and now O’Brien’s Wrong Turn 5 for Cinetalk .
